ABOUT FROGS and TOADS


Frogs are related to toads. But frogs are different from toads. Here are some ways that they differ.

FROG
  • long hind legs for leaping and swimming
  • smooth or slimy skin
  • active day and night
  • usually live near water
  • dives underwater when in danger
  • bulging eyes
  • lays eggs in clusters
  • long sticky tongue to catch insects
  • small teeth to grip food





TOAD

  • shorter hind legs for hopping
  • wart-covered dry skin
  • comes out mainly at night
  • found in drier areas
  • burrows in the sand when in danger
  • poison glands behind the eyes
  • ususally lays eggs in long chains
  • tiny tongues to snap at food
  • no teeth
