FORTS AND TRADING POSTS

FORT WALSH

Fort Walsh

Fort Walsh is located in the southwest corner of the province. It was the Northwest Mounted Police (RCMP) post from 1878 to 1883. The mounties were stationed there to keep the peace, make settlers feel safe, and to control the illegal whiskey trade. At the old townsite, there are two cemeteries and a reconstructed Whiskey Trading Post. You can walk a self-guided trail along the Battle Creek Ridge.
