FOOD PROCESSING AND MANUFACTURING

Food and beverage processing accounts for more than twenty percent of the province's manufacturing industry. There are almost 300 food processors in the province. Saskatchewan is a leading exporter of organic grain and oilseed products. Food products processed are - meat products , flour milling and bakery products and fruit and vegetable products. Other processed foods include spices, dairy products, specialty foods and beverages. Export markets include the United States, Japan, the Pacific Rim and Mexico.

There are three main flour mills operating in Saskatchewan - two in Saskatoon and a mill in Humboldt. There are also flour processing plants for organic flour, oat flour and wheat flour.


There are companies that process the following fibres - flax fibre, wheat straw and hemp fibre. Some uses for the fibres are :

Salt products obtained from potash include table salt, water softening salt, livestock salt and road de-icing salt.

Norampac in Saskatoon manufactures cardboard boxes of all shapes and sizes, for shipping and for storage.
Pre-manufactured homes - Estevan, Saskatoon and Yorkton
Agricultural machinery ( harrows) - manufactured at the Battlefords
Farm machinery - also manufactured in Yorkton
