THE COMMON LOON



RANGE

  • nesting range is across most of Canada (except the high Arctic)
  • winter - migrates to east and west coasts of North America and as far south as Gulf of Mexico
  • spring - returns to northern lakes to nest
loon

HABITAT (HOME)

  • freshwater lakes or large ponds (one pair per lake or pond)
  • larger lakes have more pairs with a section for each family
  • coastal waters for winter
