and LABRADOR

MAP

The island of Newfoundland is Canada's most easterly province. The province also consists of Labrador which is on the mainland north of the island.

Labrador is much larger than the island and is mostly wilderness area. Northern Labrador has no forests, just mountains rising from the sea.

Newfoundland and Labrador is home to Iceberg Alley, one of the best places in the world to see icebergs. The province is also the seabird capital of North America.

The province's landscape ranges from Arctic tundra to ancient mountain ranges to thick forests and rugged coastline. The coastline has many deep inlets and countless small coves and islands.

Newfoundland had rich fishing grounds nearby, but now there are fewer fish to catch due to overfishing of the Grand Banks.
